  1. Elbilenle, a village 20km south of Burco in Togdheer Province. It has not rained for nearly 2 years. All the livestock had to be moved nearly 100km away by lorry and at great expense to keep them alive. Evidence of those that didn’t make it litter the plains near the village. The villagers claim one more year of below average rainfalls and they themselves will not survive and will have to migrate elsewhere or move to the already over-burdened IDP camps around Burco town. Elbilenle, Togdheer Province, Somaliland. 2010
  2. The only teacher in Elbilenle, a village south of Burco, stands alone in an empty classroom. Last year the school, built originally by the UK-based NGO Save the Children, used to accommodate over 160 children. Now that the drought has taken hold many have been forced to move away with their families especially to the various IDP camps in and around Burco town. The numbers of pupils has now dwindled to less than half the levels of last year and if the drought continues, they are sure to dwindle further. Elbilenle, Togdheer Province, Somaliland. 2010
